Introduction - Picking Units

In Savage 2 there are two different layers of teamplay: Squad- and Commander/overall teamplay. The goal for you should be to complement your squad and your team as whole by choosing the right unit in the loadout screen.

riposteDefense/Offense
It is important to always keep an eye on the minimap. It helps you to determine whether your team is currently in a more defensive or offensive position. If you feel that your team is more in a defensive position, you should pick a strong unit (high HP/high damage/slow moving) and try to regain the upper hand. If you are a bad fighter you should at least try to support your team as a healer (if available). Running around as builder or Conjurer won't help your team changing the course of the battle, remember that!

If your team is in an offensive position you should try to either fight the enemy players with a tank unit with high HP or go in as siege unit and try to take down as many buildings as possible. If siege units are not available, pick a unit that deals high damage to buildings such as: Builder, Conjurer, Scout (Demo pack), Shapeshifter (Sacrifice).

Knowing what the enemy is doing is very very important. It will help your commander and your team to make the right decisions. A good recon is necessary to keep the upper hand in battle. Otherwise the enemy will slowly push you back and surpise you.
Recon is done by simply placingĀ  an electric eye (Scout) or Sentry bat (Hunter) on a critical map location. It is important to know that you can only have one eye/bat at a time. These gadgets will stay for 5 minutes unless they are destroyed by an enemy. So make sure you hide them in corners or behind bushes/stones.

Communication with your squad leader is important. You can hit CTRL+ENTER to chat with your squad. As a squad member it is your job to support your leader as good as possible. So ask him what he is about to do and choose your unit accordingly.

Frontline fighting / Base defense
You should either pick a unit with high damage/HP or support as healer unit.

Recon/distraction
Pick a fast unit such as Shapeshifter or Scout.

Base harassment / Flanking
The goal here is to rush into the enemy base quickly before the enemy can react. Try dealing as much building damage as possible. You should choose any of these units: Builder, Conjurer, Scout, Shapeshifter. Depending on the situation you can also go in a siege unit, but chances are that the enemy will see and kill you before you reach the target.

In almost every situation it is completely useless if your entire squad plays with the same unit. The goal should be to create a synergy between different units. So try to use a unit that is currently not present in you squad but fits into whatever goal your team is trying to achieve.

Note: Just because a unit is higher tier does not always make it the best
choice. While we all love running around as Legos and Preds, sometimes it makes
more sense to pick a utility unit such as Shapeshifter or Marksman. For example,
in a big front line fight, is may be a better choice to pick a Marksman first
instead of that Lego, True you'd probably get more kills as the Lego, but you
can use your increased movement speed and cloak to kill those 3 spawn portals
hidden behind the cliff, effectively halting the enemies advance.
